Miss Congeniality: Drag is a dream shot @ GUM Studios

Drag Queens have become mainstream. Hollywood and every other form of entertainment is taking drag seriously and has begun to embrace it as art. Now, you can see it everywhere: from animated cartoon series on Netflix (Ginger Minj and Trixie Mattel in Super Drags) to Oscar-nominated films (Shangela and Willam in A Star Is Born) and obviously, all over TV.

The story is no different for fashion. Since the beginning of drag, it’s been about making a statement – and fashion is about embracing the scandalous and colorful.

That’s why it was amazing for us to have Monet x Change serve Ms. Congeniality Realness at our GUM Studios for a one-of-a-kind ad: the non-congenial stars of RuPaul's Drag Race, featuring Peppermint, Ginger Minj, Thorgy Thor, Tatiana, and candy-colored dream logic. This 4 part series, a creative and fun campaign for Crest White Strips and Vh1, was a pleasure for our NYC film studios. What a way to impact! And yes, all of us are left wanting some of that non-congenial magic turns into illusion! With hair like that, makeup like that, and teeth like that – girl, you’ll slay!

With fun and easy-going personality, Monet X teaches us that there are no limits to what you can do. Not in life, not in drag. Not only do we love ambitions and innovative campaigns, but we thrive on the ones that actually defy society’s standards. For GUM studios and every other production studio in NYC, it is always a mission to make a statement.
